Great feedback, as always! Thank you Philipp.
And yes, IT IS very possible to hire good employees without requiring them to invest their time, energy and effort on doing a test for free. I’ve been hired many times by different companies for apprenticeships, freelance and full-time — all without tests.
But as I also tried arguing in the article I essentially don’t really care what their reason is, if they are serious about candidates doing a test, fine, but they’re sure as dirt going to pay for it because it requires us to work. And it’ll be up to the candidates depending on their financial situation if they want to earn a little extra or keep looking. But it would be fair.
I’m really glad to hear everything turned out well in the end for you, even though you turned down the test and the company. I hope stories like that will help more people out there will build up some more confidence in themselves — and also in all the companies who aren’t being assholes about hiring people because they do exist!
Thanks again!
